western iowa,by Denison | loose hay first 7 days-(grass hay)water tanks set out -the calves weigh 400#
We started them on ryesilage, earlage, groundhay and some soyhulls leaving the corn silage out on the first 7 days-at 1% body weight
100 head pens got 200# of complete feed on top of the hay twice a day
as they started to get excited when I started am feeding I slowly up the ration -day 7 we added cornsilage-about 1# per head-going up every day
today we are at 12# complete ration,no hay in the bunk
This is my ration today for 300 head
1,000 #ground hay(alfalfa70%-grass30%)
1,000# corn silage
400#rye silage,400# earlage,400# wet glutted,200# soyhulls,and 300# liquid calf starter protein with rumensin-75# of decox'.
When I started the calves the first days the ration was simple of 400# hay,400# of rye silage,400# of earlage and decox
So far everything looks good
we vaccinated the calves on day 3 with two internasels, poured with detomax and hook wormed them with safeguard
These were bawling calves off the cow and hauled 900 miles on that day
They have never had creep feed, just mom and grazing
