Guymon, OK | I had one explode on an irrigation engine this summer; scared the daylights out of me. The engine cranked a few times but didn't start, so I gave it a few seconds before trying again. As soon as I hit the starter button--POP! and I'm dancing around swearing loudly and profusely. I checked myself over and was still intact, but my boots and jeans took the brunt of it. The nearest water was almost a mile away, so I hightailed it over there, arms and face starting to tingle, and got myself hosed off as best I could, then went home for a shower and clean clothes.
Makes a guy a little gunshy the next time he has to start an engine, what with the battery being at his feet under the control panel. I was glad I sprung for prescription safety glasses.
