Faunsdale, AL | If you see little evidence of electrolyte splatter after the explosion, I think that means the battery was low and that exposes more potential places for a spark to jump inside the battery.
I’ve had two explode. The first was just like yours, except it was on a “maintainer” charger. I was squatting down with my back to a heavy “felt” curtain with the battery on the other side. Hit the start button and it blew. Very little splatter and the other battery in the 24 volt system was very low on water. I’m pretty confident the maintainer wasn’t really that, it was a slow charger, not meant to be hooked up for months on end.
Second one, I caused with jumper cables! Got some bruises from plastic shrapnel from that one. Again little to no electrolyte splatter though I washed off right away.
I never want there to be a third one! | |
