mascoutah, IL | Ed, I understand notill works great in your area. We have tried notilling here with minimal success. Beans work great on dry springs. We farm very flat black dirt that needs about 2 or 3 good rains in the summer to make a good crop. Had we notilled everything the past two years we would have not even planted a crop. Couldn't pull a 12/23 kinze across cornstalks the last week of june this year with a 200 hp fwa without making ruts but with a disk we planted the fields within 1 day. Raised 220 bushel corn on tilled ground planted first week of june. I agree with the idea of notill, we have a few hundred acres of clay hills where it works great but it does not work everywhere. | |
