Subject: RE: Side dress question?

Northern IN
I have been applying the same amount of N as you with the planter along with some sulfur and side dress the rest. Corn takes up most of its N later in the season and 40 units at planting are enough to give you a big window to apply the rest. One year with a wet spring I had corn get to v8 before the ground was dry enough to drive on. There were no signs of deficiency in the corn at that time and it ended up making a good crop. My ideal method would be to continue with the same rate at planting and dial the side dress rate back to just enough to fulfill needs in a dry year and add a third application just ahead of tassel based on rainfall and yield potential. However, a high clearance machine is not currently in my budget.
