SW Indiana | Was going to wait until i got home and could go through things better, but after missing a flight at O'Hare and not much to do I thought I'd give it a try on my phone.
I have become really good friends with MaineFarmer on here after visiting his farm on a family vacation 2 summers ago. Last February I flew to California to meet up with him and 2 of his cousins from Finland (1 of which farms in Finland) to go to the World AG Expo and had a great time.
Vincent needed to attend a funeral of an elderly relative in Finland and invited me to join him in Finland and stay on his cousins farm for about 5 days. It was truly a once in a lifetime experience, they are finishing harvest up tomorrow if the weather holds out. I helped harvest barley running a Sampo (partially owned by Agco and built in Finland) combine on Saturday afternoon. Helped move tractors and wagons to oat and canola fields. Timothy seed harvest was finished but have a picture of a wagon full of Timothy seed.
I've got all kinds of stories and memories I could share or answer questions if anyone has any. I'm sure Vincent will chime in here or make a new thread, but he is racing home to get his crew picking apples before the hurricane hits Saturday.
One quick story - we stayed about 6 hours north of the capital Helsinki. Yesterday a cousin gave us a ride to the airport, Vincent booked us a room at the Hilton as it was right on the airport property. I had never been to the Hilton before and saying a couple hillbilly farmers were out of place in there would be an understatement. At the check-in counter there was a pretty young blonde woman checking us in, Vincent tells her I've got a reservation and she asked for his ID. He then tells her 'Wes there is staying with me, he wanted just 1 bed but I opted for 2 beds'!
She looks at me and then at him and stutters, we don't judge here whatever is fine with us. I should've kicked him but was too busy laughing and trying to figure out what to say! We were looking pretty casual in the Hilton restaurant that night with the other guests, had a lot of firsts on the trip including the reindeer burger at the Hilton.
