They’re required in new construction here six years ago and I didn’t want one. I ended up finding one cheap on Craigslist and figured that would get us through inspection then I’d change it out to a regular electric water heater. It’s still working.
My cousin’s house was built a year later and he bought a full priced new one. It’s already been replaced once on warranty and last week he was having trouble with it again. Idk if he got it working or replaced on warranty again, or if he put in a regular electric heater.
Do you know what brand your cousin purchased? I would be interested in knowing the issues.
