In my opinion, the hybrid water heater has way too many moving parts to justify replacing a simple, trouble-free resistance water heater. The resistance heater is 100% efficient and a more expensive and complicated hybrid unit must improve on that.
The gas tankless units have their issues too, like their higher cost and the need to replumb the water, gas, and exhaust systems. And they will probably need to be cleaned periodically and are not simple machines.
