cropsey, il 61731 | I tend to be the lots of small mistakes guy. Though it's yet work work very well, I have bought calls to hopefully improve my final sale price. Some worked some didn't - overall didn't leave me with that 'boy this sure is a good idea' feeling. I guess with the short call I have my money up front and in a lackluster market it expires worthless and I'm happy.
In my experience with buying calls it was really hard to find a good point to sell them - I use Roach's sell signals (stochastic based), so I agree with your assessment of minimum price/basis contract being hard to make work right. I used those strategies to take advantage of explosive markets that I've missed in the past. Before 2008 not much happened and gaining an extra couple cents seemed hardly worth it, but if the market could move $1 it got my attention. Perhaps I should move towards selling calls vs. buying to take away some of the guess work.
thanks,
