What is the purpose of the 2x8 horizontal blocking?
To aid in racking strength of the building. With the 20' sidewalls, it will be sheeted with OSB and the OSB will be tied into those horizontal members as well. We have pretty steady high winds in this area and there's no windbreak from the west or south. It is not uncommon for us to have 60+ mph all day. So far the derechos have all developed east of here, but seems more likely than not we will get one eventually. The Iowa derecho a couple of years ago fired up about 30 miles southeast of us, that's close enough. |
