| So in years past you have baled 26 acres and your half has been between as high as 16 and as low as 3 bales. Quit while you can. You can't afford to bale this low producing and the landowner can't afford to have it baled. I have some land near the house that produces better than this but not much some years and I get 100% just to keep it looking good. If I had to do it on the shares I would give it up. I would also not run equipment across it for custom baling rates. I am not going up for next year but I am working on a plan for minimum charges just to show up. I told one customer earlier this year they can either pay the fertilizer man or pay me but it is going to cost them either way, might as well get more hay for your money.

Neighbor had a piece of grass with a little alfalfa sprinkled throughout (26 acres) that I have been putting up on shares for several years split 50/50. They mentioned yesterday that may need all the hay for their cows this year and are wanting me to put it up for custom rate.
Most years I can cut it twice but many times some of it is not worth swathing and I just skip that spot. I have gotten around 32 bales on a good year and 6 or 8 on bad year. This will be a bad year I am afraid.
Swath, rake and round bale and stack in field.
How would you charge? By the acre? By the hour? By the bale?
