I went one step further than weighing the ears.

I took 2 ears, hand shelled the kernels and took that sample to the elevator. Had moisture test run THEN had them weigh the entire sample on their gram scale used for FM determination.

Adjusted the weight on a dry matter basis to 15% and took a 80% factor to that number. Using determined ave population stand, the "projected" was between 40 and 50 bu/ac over what actual production was run across the scale.

You were lucky with 51 - 52 test weights, a lot of mine were 48-50.
