Subject: RE: Ag Leader Integra split variety setup

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
Sean points out some of the limitations of split varieties with more complex situations. Since we have a 24 row planter with 12-2 row sections using a Clutch Control module but NO hydraulic drive, I have lots of choices for split planter. We use a 12-12 for two seed varieties.

My problem with that is that I harvest with an 8 row corn head. So one pass is all Variety A, the next pass is half Variety A and the other half Variety B, the next pass is all Variety B. This means the auto variety change will be going from one variety to the other while harvesting the middle set of rows plus the yield would be a mix. There are ways around that such as just plain leaving the middle pass and do tests on just pure Variety A or pure Variety B.

The planter is a Deere CCS planter and we usually plant with both sides the same variety but can go one variety on the left and another on the right. This means our main configuration is 12-12 and if both sides are the same variety we just choose it for both variety boxes on the screen.

Our CCS planter has the regular 1.6 bushel boxes on it, not the mini hoppers. This means we can shut off the CCS fan and use the boxes themselves like a non-CCS planter. We did do this one time for a test of 3 varieties. I had a configuration setup for 8-8-8. We put Variety A in the left set of 8, Variety B in the next set of 8 and Variety C in the last set of 8. This worked out fine for harvesting since the combine was always harvesting only one Variety.
