I read the article and found it not real well written. I understand what they are trying to say but it was said poorly. Lanworth is saying that the USDA has been assuming a final test weight all season of around 56#. I assume that this would be the case. They have to set the bar somewhere why not at the standard 56#? Lanworth is claiming that the USDA's #'s are flawed because they are still assuming average test weight. USDA says that they have allowed for lighter test weights. If this is in fact true their numbers could be a lot closer than some of us think. Even though the corn was light there was enough extra ears and kernals out there to negate the light test weight issue. I'm still not quite sure this is true but I guess we'll find out eventually. If the corn had weighed close to average we would be looking at a 14 billion bushel crop right now instead of a 13.2 billion bushel crop.
