On-Farm Grain Storage Capacity
Up 2 Percent from Last Year
The United States on-farm storage capacity totaled 12.3 billion bushels on December 1, 2009, up 2 percent from December 1, 2008. Iowa continues to lead all States with 1.95 billion bushels of on-farm storage capacity followed by Illinois with 1.43 billion bushels and Minnesota with 1.35 billion bushels. Other major States include Nebraska with 1.11 billion bushels and Indiana with 770 million bushels of on-farm storage capacity. These five States account for 54 percent of the Nation’s on-farm storage capacity. On-farm grain storage capacity includes all bins, cribs, sheds, and other structures located on farms that are normally used to store whole grains, oilseeds, or pulse crops. | |
