You need a good internet service, with a pretty good data speed and more important unlimited data per month.

Smart TV can usually load up the common streams built in.

Roku or Amazon Fire or other devices will make older TVs work fine, and sometimes are better than the smart tv anyhow. Just a small device you buy once and it interfaces from your internet router to the tv. It’s just a hardware decoder/ tuner.

Then you can subscribe to various streaming outfits. Sling, philo, tubi, Hulu, youtube, peacock, paramount, and on and on and on.

Many of those offer some free stuff. But in general they all want you to be a paying customer, the free stuff is temporary or changes and what you want to watch you will need to pay a monthly fee for.

Local channels can be difficult. Use an antenna and get them free of course, but if you want to stream any local stuff that’s a challenge to track down.
