NOTHING, absolutely nothing is more refreshing than walking to the barn at 5 AM (unable to hear the moo of the cows due to a 50 MPH wind) with flakes of ice swirling into your face & wind nudging your back....& after milking make the return trip to stop off at the well house (coldest spot on the farm) to run the milk through the separator......I MISS THOSE TIMES.

How things USED TO BE!! mentioned only as a learning service to the light weights unfamiliar with cold and snow and to the young GRAIN producers who are toasty in their computerized beds at 5 AM in the morning & reluctant to venture out and jump into the HEATED cab versus me climbing onto an F-20 (then not now) and gripping the iron steering wheel (couldn't afford mittens). No self pity here.
