| Last spring I bought a new to me planter, a newer 1775 JD high speed. I was not satisfied with the closing of the slot and wanted to do better this spring. I had the factory rubber wheels and had them with max spring pressure, but I would say 10% of the time I was not satisfied with getting the slot closed. In previous years with everything being the same except the planter and planting speed I never had issues with my standard rubber closing wheels. I am thinking a spiked wheel or two spiked wheels would be my best option for my new planter. I've read a lot of discussion on this board pertaining to different types of closing wheels, but none of it seems to be specific to high speed planters. I'm concerned a spiked closing wheel on a traditional 5 mph planter might perform different than a 10 mph planter. I'm conventional till and all rotated ground this year. Does anyone have any experience or recommendations?
