Brookston, IN | We don't farm any heavy black ground or sand, it's all in the middle of those somewhere. I ran trials on 5-6 different wheels in no till and conventional tillage 3 years ago and every single aftermarket one I tried was better than the factory rubbers, in both no till and conventional till. Though the difference was much less in conventional tillage. S&I Distributing Finger Tills were the best for us, and Mohawks from Schaffert were almost as good. The Finger Tills are cast and very heavy, I am all no till now and like running them because of the weight. If you do a more even mix of no till and conventional till I would really look into the Mohawks because they are an insert that replaces the rubber on the factory wheel and are much lighter. It is more work to install them on the factory plastic halves than unbolting the old wheels and bolting on something new, but they are also about half the price of the finger tills. Just my $.02 | |
