Subject: Re: Probably did

SW Saskatchewan
Big Sky had a lot of barns, some farrow to finish, some only farrow, only feeder, some only finish.

A lot of producers have shipped feeder hogs to the states, sometimes feed prices have been too high in Canada and it was cheaper to ship the hogs to the corn. Sometimes there has been a real shortage of slaughter capacity. So a lot of things happen.

In the original list there was a wide array of creditors. Hard to tell who the "small" creditors would be particularly, some workers, local coop hardware-lumber stores, cafes, hotels, even some mail order hog supply houses in the states. Very few feed grain producers.

Virtually all the big hog operations have now gone broke at least once. Grain producers were probably a little lax in investigation because the "Govt" was a major shareholder and they will look out for you-right? Also, a philosophical divide---a lot of our grain is sold through the CWB and it is formally guaranteed by the Canadian govt so we all are a little lax in expecting to check for credit worthiness, if you don't support the CWB, then to doubt the credit worthiness of a buyer is just "socialist".

Regardless, they have my sympathy, some producers will have lost nearly everything from this year.
