We are so hell bent to follow them because, in my view, we are slaves to short term economic and political thinking of the powers that be(of both political parties) and society at large, but I believe in the old adage, "if something can't happen, then it won't", meaning that either we voluntarily cut the public sector spending as a percent of GDP(not likely), or the massive bond market will do it for us(in the form of higher rates).

We are increasingly left with only bad choices, that only lead to bad consequences or worse yet bad unintended consequences
