coast of Maine | Here you do not ever seed tomatoes til past March 15th for the very first outside sets. You should seed some post April 15th for later crops in the fall. There are many grow light set ups available now due to the expansion of home pot growing.years ago they sort of sucked but now they are really the cats butt for inside plant starting. If you do not have floor heat in the shop(it even will warm the trays on a table ) keep lights close at first to warm the soil.To save fuel costs for a month I run these grow lights.Running today in my house, veg farming never ends as these are mostly tomatoes starting for one of our indoor tomato greenhouses.I have a few bulbs out but coming in on Amazon,I use the bulbs that are 46 inch (may call 4 ft but not)or so,54w 6400k.There are 16 bulbs x54 watts so they do use some electricity. You would likely only need one 8 bulb unit. Its about 4 ft x 2ft.Bulbs are about 12 $ each supposed to last 20,000 hrs(I doubt).I hav e floor heat in the farmhouse so germ is fast. They will stay here till I get done goofing off in later February. Then they go into a big greenhouse and all the fun starts all over. One thing you can do to make it fun is seed some greens that you can harvest for home salad use in Feb.Micro greens but still greens in winter.Dont forget to not deduct the cost of growing these micro greens/tomatoes as the IRS wants you to claim them as income if you eat them,,,True story from audit....hehhehhe. but you could do some research on your corn/wheat/soybean germ and write the whole thing off,,,,thats the way,,, | |
