Interesting. I have been on the low/no carb trail for almost 4 years and have never counted a calorie.

From your menu the banana, bread, chips, low fat cheese, and Mt. Dew would all be considered poisonous*. Carbs from fruit have to be accounted for in my world because everything I've learned suggests that the human carcass can't tell if the sugar came from an apple or an Oreo. It's not just the carbs in the chips and bread I want to avoid, it's the seed oil that is most likely hiding out in there.

YouTube, "Dr. David Unwin- Did We Blame Salt For What the Sugar Did."

If it ain't food I don't eat it; none of the chemicals in the diet pop qualify.

Just goes to show that folks who haven't trashed their metabolism to the degree I have can thrive on another path.

I've tried eating no bread, but dammit I like a conventional sandwich. I use the 647 brand bread. Its low carb and keto friendly. Only 40 calories per slice. Ive tried only water but what fun is that. Local stores here always have Pepsi products 2 for $3 or 2 for $3.50. I stop every morning and get 2 (alway diet mt dew or diet dr pepper) and drink them. Then its water rest of day. Nothing but water gets old.
I've tried beanfield bean chips ( low carb), pork rinds, etc but I don't like pork rinds with a sandwich, and the taste of the beanfield chips ain't much. For 10 extra carbs ill take doritos or pringles. I do eat either the prepackaged bags which is a serving or put a few handfuls in a zip lock bag like i did today.
Costco has a low fat Swiss cheese that honestly i like the taste. The reduced calorie/ low fat is just a perk. Its 50 calories per slice so i usually put 2 on a sandwich.

When I started this diabetics journey I noticed that fruit and potatoes didn't seem to spike my sugar. I did some reading on it and its tied to the fiber content. I eat skin and all on a potato.
Pears, banana, apples, and strawberries are my fruits of choice. Im blessed with that I guess, but rice was a killer on my blood sugar as is bread and pasta. As I've lost weight though I still prick
my finger from time to time and rice doesn't seem to bother me now. I still eat cauliflower rice and regular rice 50/50 though.
That's a neat trick the rice tastes like rice and the cauliflower is filler.
My diet may not work for everyone but it sure works for me.
