Subject: RE: Weight loss/diet help

Many of us have been reading John Burns' posts for a long time here. He changed his life out of necessity. The example is right here in this forum for anyone who wants to try it, IMHO.

Personally, I didn't want to go the very low carb route. I tried it once and had deposits on my teeth that were bad enough that once I thought I had lost a filling when one broke loose. But John's claims about feeling better and seeing big positive changes when he went for physicals did make me curious.

So, I eat a small amount of oatmeal cooked with an equal amount of chopped walnuts for breakfast. At first, without the sugar, it tasted terrible. After awhile, however, while it is not all that great, it is not too bad. No insulin spike, and it "stays with me." A chai tea late morning with whole milk - again, no spike, and it "stays with me." A normal meal with all the meat I want in the afternoon and usually oven-roasted vegetables. To satisfy the cravings in the evening, I will often drink a glass of whole milk (lactase) over some ice cubes. Often we have crepes (eggs) - and I will add a bit of real maple syrup.

Results? His claim about almost completely losing a whole lot of arthritic-like pains is exactly what I found to be true. So far, I have not experienced the pains in my joints that I have had for many years. I feel much better - unless I make the mistake I once did of eating at Perkins and ordering French toast with syrup. I have also learned that if I choose a soda drink (with sugar) when we go out, I know that I will not feel the best for the rest of the day.

Again, I didn't go about losing a lot of weight - in fact, I don't remember the last time I used a scale. I just wanted to feel better.

John - thanks again for all the posts detailing your personal experiences.
