Here is a link to a graph from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. A significant drop can be seen when COVID caused many businesses to be shut down. More people are getting back into the labor force. Many people took early retirement for a variety of reasons. I think that accounts for most of the difference between pre COVID employment levels and where things are at presently.
