| I have windows XP, and use quite a few different tools with my pc and the mobile laptop. we have wireless highspeed internet, though this only maks a difference in download times I suppose. (had dial up previously so I know how painful it can be ) anyhow, in regards to saving files from you tube there is a two fold answer. first you need to download the file and then convert it so its compatible with your system.
I download with orbit grabber, I found it searching download youtube videos on google, its a free download. next if you want to make a cd or view the video in WMV or anything other than the FLV setup in youtube you need to downlod Moavi Flash Converter, this is free on 30 day trial, works really well. I have been able to download and burn HD ( 1080p) quality video from youtube using these two operating systems. hope this helps you
