I just posted a reply on a thread in machinery talk. (#418838 - in reply to #418835)

After my post, I saw another reply from Bill Moyer.(#418836 - in reply to #418835) 

I wrote a reply to him.  (#418842 - in reply to #418836)I posted it.  It fell in the correct place.

  I then discovered a mistake in my post #418838 , so I went and edited it.  After the edit, my reply to Bill's post #418836  is now showing under my #418838 instead of under his post.  The 'post number, in response to post number' in the header says that the reply should be showing up where it belongs, but it's not.   It was originally in the correct spot, prior to my edit of the higher level post.   

I've seen this a couple times in the past....not frequently by any means, but there is some sort of bug causing it.
