Subject: Cutting Big Square Bales in Half

Canmore Ab. Canada
Hi All,

Sometimes when we ship bales long distances we split 4x4 and 3x4 bales in half ( three strings on each half) to get better loads on trucks and still meet width and height restrictions. At present we use a chain saw and it is a bit of a dirty job.

Has anyone got a machine to do this job? Have you seen a machine that does this?

We will be developing something for the coming season and if the wheel has already been invented... well I'm not proud.

We have thought about a long chainsaw type blade that is hydraulically driven with a feeder to push the bales through. Also a sickle bar type cutter or reciprocating blades like on some weed trimmers. We would like to load bales on and pick them off the other end split in half with the strings intact.

Thanks for any ideas you may have.

Dan...
