Subject: using pcmcia to serial card for gps

Flora Indiana
I purchased a quatech rugged pcmcia to serial rs232 card to use in a itronix tablet. I've been using a usb to serial adapter and it has worked fine except in rough ground it isn't a tough connection. I'm using farmworks sitemate/tracmate. The problem is when i set the com port to the pcmcia card i get the message (cant open comm port) when i plug the usb adapter back in it works fine. The usb is com6 and the pcmcia card is com10. Is it possible something in the background is trying to use the pcmcia card and if so how do I find out what is? Thanks
