Subject: question on old IH 350 transmission

south Texas , York Rife Freemason
im doing some bearings in a 1957 ih 350 utility ,the top shaft is also the pinion and the preload is set with shims ,im okay there i saved the old shims.

the problem is the lower shaft ,i have the new bearings and 2 new gears loaded on that shaft ,but it has an adjustment nut on the front of the shaft ,the IT manual has no spec for rolling torque , nut torque ,or ANY other specs .

this lowercountershaft nut has a lock tab , so it looks like preload is set by this nut .

we exchange transmissions in trucks at work so , i have very little "gear experence"

thanks
