| I have been raising 2 day Holstein steers to 500# and have done fairly well with it for awhile now. I had an offer to contract feed calves for $100 a head, I would get them at 2 days old, fed colostrum already, and the buyer would pay for the calves and feed and I would take them to 175-200 pounds or off a starter feed. Because he doesn't want to spend the time bottling them. My question is has anyone had any experience with this arrangement? The way I figure it would better than taking all the risk of buying feed and worrying about selling them for a break even price or worse. I would only get paid for the ones that were still alive when he took procession of them. I have most of equipment and supplies already and a paid-for barn so I only think I would be out the labor if they all decide to roll over one morning and die. Thoughts?
