The derailment of about 18 cars of a 60-car Norfolk Southern freight train occurred around 2:15 a.m. Eastern Time, according to Washington Township Fire Department Lieutenant John Hoffman. The derailment took place about a mile and a half west of Arcadia, Ohio, which is 40 miles southeast of Toledo. No injuries have been reported, but the fire has caused explosions and is too hazardous to fight at this point, according to Hoffman. "We've had numerous explosions," Hoffman said. "It's been enough to make it look like sunrise a mile and a half away." The cause of the derailment is not known. |
