Subject: Iowa DNR & peroxide use in water for church.

NW Iowa. / SW Arizona
I belong to a small dwindleing rural church & it seems we're always battling the DNR. We are considered a public use of water so the water has to be tested quarterly for nitrogen & bacteria. Years ago we had a shallow well that had high bacteria & nitrogen readings so we posted the public warning signs for pregnant women not to drink the water & put in the weekly chloride pills to treat the bacteria.

We got tired of doing that so $20,000+ later we dug a new deep well to satisfy the DNR. Good news was the test came back great for bacteria & nitrogen. Now we had another problem, the water soon smelled like rotten eggs & the pastors cloths in parsonage (same water source) started turning red, along with the toilet bowels turning red. So after visiting with the local plumber he had been selling a peroxide machine where it injects a small amount of peroxide on demand into the water for a cost of about $800. This system worked great & took care of all our problems. Almost, we forget to "ASK" the DNR if this was acceptable. NOPE, not for public use you can't use it.

Now the DNR says we can use it "Only" if we install a on demand chlorinator to take care of the peroxide being used. Still getting a price on that. The local plumber who sold us the peroxide machine says some state east of Iowa had the same problem with thier state DNR but they finally got the approval to use the machine.

Any other church out their in this USA using this system & getting approval from their DNR? Sorry about the long letter. I could have gone on longer with more problems with the DNR but that's another story.
