A Cowboy's Thanksgiving Prayer

By Steve Luces

Well Lord,

This sure was a prayin' year, but I reckon you would know

Cause you sure heard our every prayer, I'm thinkin' 'bout the snow

That seemed to stay all winter; we thought it would never leave.

But prayin' turned to prasin' when we saw those first green leaves

And we though the worst was over, green grass and clear blue sky,

But when spring rolled into summer, it got so awful dry.

And we prayed for rain, and it finally came and gave us grass for fall,

Enough to get us into winter, so I'd say overall,

You've been mighty good to us again, Dear Lord mostly when things got tough.

Sometimes you gave us extra, and sometimes just enough.

So, we take this time to thank you for the blessings you bestow

On this special Thanksgiving Day, but still I know

That cattle folks should be thankin' you each and every day

'cause we get extra blessings from you in a extra special way.

The time we get to spend outside amid the beauty of your land,

And we experience the joy that comes from ridin' for Your brand.

The friends we make, the folks we meet, our children and our wives

Are all a part of what we do, livin' our cowboy lives.

Time is short, the blessings list is long, which I shall not repeat,

'Cept to thank You for the cook and his food,

Thanks again Lord,

Let's eat!!
