NE Iowa | Big deal forTraer, Iowa last night - our football team won the Class A State Football Championship. 1st time in school history for a state championship for a mens' team event. The Redhawks went 14-0 for the season, and beat undefeated teams in the last 3 games of the playoffs by scores of 35-20, 28-0, and 43-34. Kudos to the team from Madrid that also made it to the finals - they are a big and talented team - but North Tama never gave up - even after being down 20-0 in 2nd quarter. Lots of talent on our side of the ball, but the shining star last night was Brendon Boerm - he had a triple triple - 174 yds passing, 104 yds rushing, and 112 yds receiving. Also was a part of all 6 touchdowns - he had 2 rushing, 2 passing, and 2 receiving - the 2 passing TDs were to his brother. The team is far from a 1-man show, but Madrid did a good job keeping some of the others guys out of their game, so they focused on doing what was necessary to win the game - terrific blocking and play execution.
