Subject: Caution: calves with frozen feet

This was the first time I have ever seen this, but we had a calf born in the middle part of February this year, and it started walking on the top of one of it's back hooves. We called the vet and he thought maybe we hit a nerve when we gave it a shot in the hind quarter. He said just give it some steriods and it would get better. The calf's hoof kept cracking and was a whitish color. It got worse and worse and started bleeding and eventually the part above the hoof was about half off. We finally took it to the vet, and he said there wasn't anything he could do for it- said just put it down because it had suffered enough. He said the other hind hoof was frost-damaged too, as it was cracking and white color.

Just warning you guys if you see this out there, because I haven't seen this before.
