Isn’t this kind of a big deal? Why isn’t there more concern over UP railroad just “loosing” 30 tons of ammonium nitrate?!?
First off, how does that happen without anyone knowing? Second, the author of the article clearly has zero knowledge of what they are writing about….I’ve never seen coal hauled in a covered hopper car and most of those cars have more than one gate on the bottom. In my mind, they should have more than one seal too but I don’t know exactly how they work.
I understand how the majority of the load could have been scattered over several hundred miles of track and rendered harmless, however, I see that as unlikely given the fact 3 or 4 doors would have had to spring leaks simultaneously to empty the entire car load…something doesn’t pass the sniff test here.
A heist like this would be difficult, but doable with a couple semis, an under car conveyor and a large pry bar…hope it’s just scattered out from Wyoming to California… | |
