Subject: Polaris owners check your front upper A-arm bolts

Boone, Iowa

2013-2019 900 and some early 1000 machines need to be looked at.  I included a list in a picture below.  I have a 2013 900XP and was traveling down a two-lane secondary highway to check some fields.  As I slowed down to make a turn at an intersection, I lost control of my steering and it was headed to the left ditch.  Luckily, there was no traffic coming, but it happened so fast that I couldn’t do anything but hang on.  I was able to get slowed down with the brakes and the ditch wasn’t too steep, but ended up at the bottom of the ditch.  Less than a mile from home, I called for a ride to get my truck and trailer.  We got it pulled out of the ditch and winched onto the trailer.  Back at the shop, we figured out that the upper a-arm bolt broke off just behind the lock nut, slid out and allowed the upper a-arm to flop around.  I called the dealer and they told me that they normally have that bolt, but they were currently out of stock.  That made me think that it was not uncommon for this bolt to break.  I did some more research on this bolt breaking, which led me to the Duraclutch website.  They sell an upgrade kit that Polaris originally designed, but didn’t put into production.  I don’t know if a bean counter at Polaris wanted to save some money or had another reason they didn’t use this design.  I received my $100 kit and installation went smooth.  A set of directions is included in the kit that comes complete with hardware.  I did find that I bent the left tie rod, so I ordered a heavier built tie rod kit from Super ATV.
