Subject: So how was your night?

I'm sitting here broken hearted, stuck on ice and snow. Yet I'm warm, truck stinks of you know what. Thinking I should have listened to momma when she said don't grow to be a cowboy.

Waiting for truck to come just give me a little tug. Hated to wake up #3 son to rescue me. It's been quite a pisser of the last three weeks. Our thaw came over last weekend, then rain. Flooding, washing roads out. I'm thinking maybe time to retire to AZ. Ride with the desert dogs hunting rocks and unopened beers.

Really sucks when you try so hard to save calves, yet they still find a way to die. This pic is of one we call Big Dumb, I think he had some brain damage, would suck, but lazy. Cow would take him out on vast snow opening everytime we brought him to feed ground. He finally tipped over two days ago in tractor tire ruck that filled in 6" water. Thinking he got water in lungs. Other was fine yesterday morning, yet found it last breathing at 1 p.m.

Took a pic of them as I put new heifers calf in calf warmer, he wanted to get up, but the cold wind was just cutting him down.

Thankful for all the equipment us and other ranchers have been able to aquire over the years. Had equipment spread out over two counties, had to hook old 4030 JD up to old horse team wagon to feed at home. The old girl got her done. When the frost leaves the ground here no bottom.

Bright spots this week called a young producer knew he was going though hell the past month. I pulled into his ranch, said he was walking out to put a cow down. She went down after calving. He had packed her to high spot, on straw mound. Two ton bales holding her up. Packed feed water to her. I said let's take a look at her, I said son I think she's got milk fever, he replied I've never seen that. I went back to my place and got two bottles of cal/mag they were 4 years old. I showed him how to hit vein. She started to come around. Told her to get her up on feet in morning if not up. He called me first thing in morning said she got up and walked off.So there is the little things that bring me joy.

With all the flooding going on I took pics and sent to planning and zoning. Said here is the proof don't let sub division go in here. Feild totally flooded, it's a flood plain like I told you guys. One of the first lots sold the guy was staking out his house plot. Everyone saw him that day. People stopped and told him it floods. He laughed at everyone, well I got his phone number from zoning, sent him pics told him he better buy flood insurance. He texted back is that the worst I've ever seen it. I said no buddy this is mild, to each his own. You try to warn people, but their stupid gene just seems to kick in when they think they are getting a good deal on land.

This week county voted for 30 million school bond, it got 87% vote yes. Going to be a 3 year bond, said they had all the funds to pay for it, money from state matching. Yet number of kids in brick and mortar buildings is still same number for last 35 years. But hey we get 3 million dollars worth of ball diamonds. If they don't have the money they say. It will cost farmers an extra 1,400 dollars more per hundred thousand evaluation of property on top of current tax bill. They damn well better have funds secured. I voted for it, to help end the B.S. been voted down three times. This time they seemed to find funding for it go figure.

Going to have to try and move 650 pairs three miles, out of feed. Road washed out can't haul hay to them. Snow has broke where they are. Going to have to let pairs drift, clean up for a few days following.

That darn sun better come out today. But then the old T.G. Shepard song keeps popping in my head, Let's go down in a blaze of glory.
