I have read several posts lately about CD rates from different institutions. While the rate has come up substancially have you stopped and asked what is the bank or finanacial institution investing the money they receive from CD buyers to guarantee those rates? That is where you need to be investing. I am guessing (yeah I really have to idea) that they are covering with bonds? What do you think they invest the CD money in to pay 4 or 5%?
