Subject: Collecting calf tissue samples out on pasture

South Georgia
I was curious what other producers were using to collect tissue samples for DNA testing from calves while tagging out on pasture. I tried the Allflex unit and was not impressed. I’m sure it works great in the fancy hydraulic chutes at the Allflex lab, but in my opinion too many small fragile parts for use out in the pasture. Also, It’s another tool to have to keep track of while a mad moma cow is breathing down my neck. I am interested in the combination tagger/tissue sampler that Ztag offers. Anyone have any experience with it? It seems to me that tagging and tissue sampling should be a “one click” process.
