Subject: Frustration

Central Kansas
Started wheat harvest last Saturday afternoon with a CNH 7130 with 35ft draper. First pass down the field blew an oring in the valve stack under the cab. Simple fix no problem. Along the other side of the field broke a sycle section. Simple fix no problem. Combine through a code and derated (E1475.3). Shut her down and rebooted ECM and away we went. Just finished first load and turned around to see something big and black laying in the field. Rear wheel broke off at hub. Limp back to grain cart. Big fix big problem. P o'clock call it quits. Contact the dealer on SUnday afternoon no parts at nearby stores can have by Tuesday.

Monday locate a useed hub at nearby salvage yard back together late afternoon. Combine starts throwing code again. Change both fuel filters. Problem persists. Contact service manager and exchange text messages into the evening. Code keeps popping up more frequently. Decide to call it a night and have technician come out next day. Harvested three load so far.

Start harvesting next morning with genuine Case filters instead of NAPA. Harvest for half an hour and contact service manager to tell him we are going. Twenty minutes later starts throwing code again. Son who is my main mechanic has jury duty today don't know when he will get home. Decide to have tech come out. Try to keep cutting but code is becoming very persistent. Finally tech shows up just as combine throws code again. Hooks up computer and starts diagnosing. Decide sensor is bad and decide to replace metering valve also. My son shows up. Got excused from serving this time. Take forth load to town while tech and son decide plan of action. Discover a bearing out on draper head. Send wife for one part forty miles away and daughter in law 35 miles in other direction for other parts.

Have to remove drum on draper to replaces bearing. Valve cover has to come off engine to install the sensor. Tech and son get work.

We are still planting sorghum so I take to cover up what we have planted. Just get things baack together and a thunderstorm rolls through. Just enough rain to stop everything for the evening. Over night get another shower. No harvest for two days. Started back up this morning and combine continues to throw code. Blow out fuel lines. Search wiring harness for broken wires. Decide it might be fuel pump. Drive forty miles to get fuel pump. Get back put it on and still throwing codes. Can't harvest more than a hundred yards and code derates machine.

Almost one week into harvest and haven't harvested the eighty we started on. Should finish sorghum planting tomorrow. Furrowed corn today. Spray tomorrow and wait for tech to get us going. Chance of rain tomorrow night.

Almost two thousand dollars in parts and still have to pay for two service calls. Farming can be so much fun.
