| On a few occasions in the past, planting was so delayed by flooding that I ended up planting a CC mix. Also 1 year, a field of NT organic soybeans was so weedy that I decided to till it under in August and then plant a CC mix.
In each of these situations, I grew an exceptional crop (mostly corn) the following season.
This year I decided to intentionally plant 1 field to a CC mix rather than growing a crop.
The field had a thick stand of winter annual weeds (mostly pennycress) that I terminated with shallow tillage in early May.
Several weeks ago, we field cultivated to kill a flush of summer annual weeds and yesterday I aggressively tine weeded to kill another flush of summer annual weeds.
This afternoon I used a JD 8200 drill to plant a diverse CC mix.
A mix of soybeans, cowpeas, sunn hemp and sunflower was planted using the large seed box (~ 50 lbs/a).
A mix of clovers (medium red, alsike, berseem, balansa and sweet clover), pearl millet, rapeseed, sesame and chia was planted using the small seed box (~ 8 lbs/a)
The attached spreadsheet provides the details.
Looking forward to an exceptional honey crop in 2022 and corn crop in 2023 :)
