Northern Indiana | Had hog manure applied on farm late December. Ground froze within a week of manure application. Manure sample says roughly 160# of n applied in hog manure. Put 40 # of n on with planter. I pulled Psnt test june 2nd. Ground was rock hard and average sample depth was 6 to 8 inches. Between nitrate and ammonium it added to 38. That seemed very high. Resample field june 14th. Rained 1 inch night before and had no problem sampling to 12 inches. Those results came back 13 nitrate and 3 ammonium. Corn is v6 and dark green. Before I decided to resample I sidedressed 2 test strips of 60# of n. No visual difference between test strips and rest of field
The farm is rolling with some spots capable of 200+ but hills barely going 120. Aph is 150. Based on my schedule I think the sidedress window is closed for me. If corn was 3.50 I wouldn't have any problem letting it ride. $7 corn is making me 2nd guess not applying extra N.
