Have taken care of cows for a guy for the past 5 years or so. Have dealt with him for about 20 years now altogether. Anyway, bad bad grass situation this year as we just kept missing out on rain all winter and spring, although we got a couple inches past couple weeks. Others get an inch and I get .10", that kind of thing, plus had lots of winter kill in low areas (typically flooded during normal years) (up to a third winter kill in some pastures).
Got the cows back in calving pen and haying again, trying to give the grass another chance to catch up. Losing my butt on price of hay vs what I'm getting but trying to keep up both in business. Warned him he'd probably have to take cows home, he countered with bringing me hay and I could keep feeding them. What should I charge for yardage if I go with his plan? Options?
Have pretty much given up on putting up hay this year which means my cows also get wheels put under them this fall if not sooner. Drought sucks.
