Subject: Alfalfa Fertilization By Removal?

How many farmers do this?  With high prices and better than normal yields, We can afford to put back the removed nutrients this year.  400 lbs+ of K2O removed plus the others.  I have good access to one of the authors of the recent UC Davis publication on alfalfa and he says that very few farmers put back more than half of the K alfalfa takes out. Our ground has adequate K, but not an excess.  Am I being ridiculous thinking this is a real problem?
