September 8, 2008 – Louisiana rice farmers could lose as much as $28.7 million dollars due to yield and quality losses resulting from Hurricane Gustav, according to an analysis released today by Johnny Saichuk, the state’s Extension Rice Specialist.
That amounts to about 7.4% of the total estimated farm gate value of the state’s crop prior to the hurricane, he noted.
