Subject: open seed slot what to look for?

Tekonsha, Michigan
I have been scouting my corn fields I had planted about two weeks ago. I noticed that in one of my heavy clay fields the seed trench never closed behind the planter. The seed seems to be germinated just fine should come above the surface within the next day or two, but standing there you can look right down into the trench at the seed.

If any what kind of damage can this cause with the seed being exposed to the elements?

Thanks all!

Bruce
