Hagen Brothers farms,Goodrich ND | Anyone familiar with the tractor to trailer wiring on an 08 semi trailer with Meritor Wabco ABS brakes ?
I needed to run my 18 year old IH 8200 with new ABS equipped trailer attached and found the batteries almost dead. I wondered if a battery was getting bad, or if something on the trailer was draining the batteries in the two weeks it's been parked.
Today I checked the trailer cord on the tractor and find the center pin always powered.
The trailer ABS manual says that this pin is where the ABS ECM gets power.
What the manual does not say, is if or not the ECM should be powered when the truck is parked ?
A test light connected between the center pins of tractor and trailer connector glows at about 1/2 normal , so the trailer ECM does draw some power all the time.
The operators manual does not indicate if I need to make that center plug terminal switch off with the ignition, or if that new Trailer ABS ECM has a fault that makes it discharge the batteries when parked..
Anyone have any experience with these things ?? TIA for your help.
