Subject: What is the best way to store Sweetcorn Silage

Willmar MN

I am new to the Sweetcorn silage. I was wondering how do the professionals out there store it? I am getting 100 ton so it isn't that much but I was thinking of just tarping it and putting tires across the top. Do some people pack it? What are the different ways it can be handled? It's about 25-30 degrees at night and 40-50 degrees during the day. It looks like another 10 days or so of this kind of weather. I am having it custom hauled. They started hauling yesterday and will finish today. I told them I want it in a line about 6-7 foot tall. So far it looks really good. Cows are still on stalks and with no chance of measurable precipitation the silage will probably stay another 3-4 weeks before I use it. I will be feeding it into inside-out tires on the stalks when I do start feeding.

Thanks,

Matt
